24 hours:

I've been in Ecuador for almost 24 hours - and I've already learned a lot. & this is it....

The guidelines:
-Don't drink the water - at all. not a drop.
-Don't flush the toilet paper or anything down the toilet that doesn't belong there.
-Don't use your cell phone.
-Don't eat anything you can't peel.
-Drivers DO NOT stop for pedestrians.
-If you have blonde hair and pale skin, you will stick out.
-Ecuadorians don't care if you don't speak spanish, they will
continue to speak to you like you do.
- The outlets are sideways and there is no third prong space.

What I've learned: (mostly the hard way)
-Last night as I was brushing my teeth I said aloud, "Oh, crap.
I just used the sink water to wash my mouth out." shoot.
-I continue to throw my toilet paper in the toilet, and I gladly
get to pull it out with my hand before I flush.
-I continue to look for my cell phone to make sure its there.
Guess what, it's not.
-Drivers use their horns like their blinkers, blinkers also mean "run or
I will hit you."
-I've realized just how terrible my spanish is, and it was not until I
speak it here and I hear myself.. and get embarrassed.
- This morning I searched the house high and low looking for an outlet, I was
disappointed until someone pointed out a kind of sideways not even resembling
a electricity outlet. nice.

Needless to say, I absolutely love it here. I love the culture, the city, the people, the girls I'm serving with, and the WEATHER. These Ecuadorian people are so poor, but so happy. such blessed souls. This is all I got for now, tonight is new years though and I hear it gets a little crazy. I'll let you know how it is. Ciao!
